Hope in Peterborough

What's on

Fresh Hope – January

We are suggesting several possible courses that churches in Peterborough could run so that people in their local communities experience Hope right at the beginning of the Year.

All the suggested courses are DVD based, for example a marriage course, a family time parenting course and a money management course. A booklet with all the details has been sent out to all the churches. If you are already busy in January you can always run the courses at another time in the year.

Big Hope – Easter

Easter is viewed by many Christians as the most important period in the calendar of the Church and it has so many messages of Hope within it. Two events we are promoting under the Hope banner are:

The CROPS Trust will be organising assemblies and classes within many of the schools in Peterborough to tell all of the children and young people the story of the Easter message involving people from churches across Peterborough.

Hope where you live

One of the challenges for HOPE 08 is to get Christians all over the country joining together to give 1,000,000 hours of kindness in the form of practical help to their communities. The long Bank Holiday weekend in May (3rd – 5th May) provides us with a great opportunity to serve the spiritual, physical and social needs of those around us and to get really practical! Each hour we give to serve others is an hour where we are worshipping God by following the example Jesus set for us in being the gospel as well as talking about it.

We will be releasing a booklet of suggested activities early in 2008.

Summer activities

We are planing to run a large social action based project in four locations in the city over the last weekend in August. As well as social action activities there will be family events, also a concert to invite young people to, and evangelistic Sunday morning services with open invitations. More details to follow.

Hope explored

Hope explored is the Autumn focus on inviting friends and colleagues in our local communities to discover more about Christian Hope, possibly by using one of the many resources already available, such as the Alpha Course and Christianity Explored. We will be encouraging churches to work together with these courses so that the Christian message of Hope is available to all.

The Gift of Hope – Christmas

In 1999 we reached our low watermark as a Church when only around 35% of the UK population attended Church over the Christmas period. Since then the numbers have been steadily increasing, particularly in the last couple of years. The Daily Mail reported that Christmas 2006 had seen a huge increase with over 45% of the UK attending Church. This means that around 27 million people came through the doors of our Churches that Christmas; a huge opportunity to relevantly share the good news of a God who was so desperate to bring us hope that He left Heaven and came to Earth.

We have several ideas of activities the churches can be involved in over Christmas involving outdoor carol concerts and providing presents for those who may not otherwise receive any. More details to follow.

Anything else

All the above ideas are just suggestions if you want to do anything else in your church then feel free. If you have more ideas for the year then please contact us with them.

It would also be great to hear about all the other events that you are already running or planning to run over 2008. Please contact us here.
