For Easter they also collected donations of 45 chocolate 'Eggs of Hope', that were sent to the Family Care organisation in Peterborough. At Pentecost, the group held a 'Cakes of Hope' stall, that raised £124 for the Peterborough Soup Kitchen. Their current project is a 'Tea Party of Hope' with some light entertainment, that is being planned for Saturday September 6th at Stephenson Court Almshouse, where the team will be adding to the 'Million Hours of Kindness' serving. “We are only a small group at the Cathedral, but hope that our efforts bear fruit.” Sat, 9 Aug 2008 http://hopepeterborough.org.uk/articles/2008/08/09/news-from-the-cathedral.html HOPE in the City For the first time ever, a group of city centre churches have put together a Christian Festival weekend in Peterborough, Friday 26th – Sunday 28th September. Events will take place in venues ranging from the Town Hall to the Cathedral and the Festival opens with a special event at Park Road Baptist Church on Friday evening. Saturday sees the Cathedral’s Open Day and in the afternoon there will be a great variety of stalls and entertainment on the green in front of the cathedral, organised by the group of churches who are working together on this. The Festival ends on Sunday evening with Songs of Praise introduced by Pam Rhodes at Westgate Church. Wondering what’s on at the Town Hall? That’s a good question… More details of HOPE IN THE CITY will be available soon. Mon, 28 Jul 2008 http://hopepeterborough.org.uk/articles/2008/07/28/hope-in-the-city.html Street Invasion Street Invasion is coming! For those of you who don’t know, Street Invasion is a youth led outreach project running in the last week of August, where the young people involved will go out on to the streets and invite other young people back to a youth club called “The Zone“. The day will also see the young people take part in joint worship and training in the mornings of each day all together at KingsGate Community Church before they move off to their Street Invasion locations at Parnwell, Welland, South Bretton and Millfield. This is a massively exciting project, with people from all over the city getting involved. We’re looking forward to seeing what God has in store for us over the week! It’s also not too late to get involved – if you still want to sign up for Street Invasion then download the leaflet here and send it off as soon as possible! For any adults that would like to be involved we would love to have you pray for the week. Some prayer pointers are available here and there is also a joint prayer evening at KingsGate on the first night of Street Invasion (27th August) at 7.30pm which everyone is extremely welcome to attend. If you have any other questions about Street Invasion then please email Simon Campling Wed, 23 Jul 2008 http://hopepeterborough.org.uk/articles/2008/07/23/street-invasion.html Quaker Quiet Garden Peterborough Quaker Meeting has recently joined the Quiet Garden Movement and their garden will be in connection with this scheme on Sunday 20th July, Saturday 16th August and Tuesday 16th September from 1pm to 5pm on each date. _“Close to Peterborough City Centre, the District Hospital, the Rail and Bus stations, Queensgate and the busyness of our exciting and expanding city is a little known oasis of calm. A place where birdsong can be heard above the roar of road and railway traffic, where mature trees and shrubs thrive and, depending on the time of year, a wide variety of colourful flowers cheer the soul.” “The garden will be opened on specific days as a place for personal quiet reflection and meditation. There will be no planned activities, no Quaker or Christian ‘hard or soft sell’ but there will be people available to talk with visitors if that is what they require.”_ Click here for the full press release, and click here for a printable flyer. Congregations were invited to a family picnic, with games (rounders and welly wanging) on the playing field. The worship team from Nene Family Church led a half hour of hymns/songs, and prayers were led by the various church leaders. This was another great example of churches coming together to develop relationships with about 100 people attending from the 5 churches, and to start what will hopefully be the first of many more joint events.
